Virtually any barrier standing in your way to success can be overcome by using a few powerful techniques that analyze what is really going on and create the environment for overcoming the problem areas.
Most of the time the real barriers come from within not from outside. We make excuses that blame others for our failures, but when we really analyze what is going on, almost every failure can be prevented by some different action or decision on our part.
We can make simple adjustments that will bring about noticeable improvement in our rate of success by taking stock of our performance on a daily basis. Set aside time every evening to compare what was planned for the day and what was accomplished. Don’t let your mind make excuses for the things that didn’t get done: “If I only had reached that seller I might have gotten a contract signed…”; “I was too tired to edit that eBook for my web site today…”; “I didn’t have the money to set up the new marketing campaign this week…” The mind will always make up an excuse for every failure.
Think in terms of getting past the problems. If funding is short for a marketing campaign think of ways to get around the problem with alternative forms of marketing that are less expensive, cooperative marketing with an Investor partner or a real estate agent, etc. If you feel an energy drain perhaps you need to delegate more. If you can’t reach one seller, keep calling on other potential sellers, or talk with a few more agents about sellers they may have recruited in need of a buyer.
Sometimes the problem is with the goals that were set. Perhaps they were too ambitious for anyone to accomplish in one day. We tend to turn away from projects that seem too massive to accomplish. Next time, break goals down into mini-goals with tasks that are achievable in a shorter period of time. Over time the larger project will be accomplished by taking small intermediate steps.
By analyzing and scoring your performance on a daily basis and coming up with alternatives that will move your goals forward every day you’ll see a marked improvement in your success in a very short period of time. It will take being completely honest with yourself and inventive about ways to get around perceived barriers, but nearly every obstacle can be overcome once it is tackled with an open mind.
